RJ Construction has been roofing North Jersey houses out of the City of Orange since 1990. Most of the work is asphalt shingle roofs on the colonials, capes, split-levels and ranches that fill Essex, Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties, along with standing seam metal and low-slope roofs where the house calls for them.

How we work

We see the roof before we quote it. A roof has to be looked at, not guessed at from the street. We check the shingles, the flashing, the vents and the gutters, and we tell you plainly what we found.
Full tear-off on every replacement. The old shingles come off so the deck underneath can be inspected and repaired. We do not layer a new roof over an old one.
Your property is protected. Tarps go over the shrubs, beds and driveway before anything comes off the roof, and the dumpster is gone as soon as the job allows.

The roofing services we offer

Roof replacement is a complete tear-off and a new roof system, from the ice protection at the eaves to the ridge vent. Most homes are done in one day.

Roof repair covers leaks, missing shingles, flashing, pipe boots, skylights and storm damage. When a repair will buy you real years, that is what we recommend.

A roof inspection tells you what shape the roof is in before you buy a house, sell one, or decide whether to replace.

Standing seam metal roofing is the long-life option for homes where the owners plan to stay, and it sheds snow better than anything else we install.

Flat and low-slope roofing is for porches, garages, additions and the low-pitch sections that shingles cannot handle.

Shingles and brands

Most of our roofs are asphalt architectural shingles. We install GAF roofing products, and the shingle line, color, underlayment and ventilation plan are written into your quote so you know exactly what is going on the house. How long does a residential roof last in New Jersey?

An asphalt shingle roof usually lasts somewhere around 20 to 25 years here, depending on the shingle line, how well the attic is ventilated, and how much sun and ice the roof sees. A standing seam metal roof lasts far longer. Our five signs you need a new roof will help you judge yours.

Do I need a new roof or just a repair?

If the damage is in one area, such as a flashing leak or a few blown-off shingles, a repair is usually the right call. If the shingles are curling, losing granules or leaking in several places, the roof is at the end of its life. We will tell you which one you have.
